Why Lutron
Lutron invented the solid state dimmer in 1961 and has led the lighting control industry ever since. Their systems are found in homes, hotels, and landmark buildings worldwide. What sets Lutron apart is reliability. Their Clear Connect wireless technology operates on a dedicated frequency with no interference from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or neighbouring networks. Every keypad, dimmer, and sensor is designed and manufactured by Lutron, which means every component in the system is tested to work together flawlessly.
We install and programme Lutron residential systems for homes across Kingston, Surrey, and South West London.
Lutron RadioRA 3
RadioRA 3 is Lutron's wireless lighting control system for homes. It is designed for both new builds and retrofit installations, making it an excellent choice if you want to add professional lighting control without rewiring.
Each processor supports up to 200 devices (100 Clear Connect Type X plus 95 Clear Connect Type A, alongside the processor itself). Two processors can be paired in a single project for up to 400 devices total. Sunnata companion dimmers and switches do not count toward the Type X limit. The system runs on Clear Connect RF, a dedicated wireless protocol independent of your home Wi-Fi. Type X devices mesh with each other and should be within 25 ft of two other Type X devices. Type A devices must be within 30 ft of the processor or a repeater.
Control is via Sunnata keypads and dimmers, Pico wireless remotes, the Lutron app, or voice (Alexa, Google, Apple HomeKit, Sonos). Sunnata controls feature a light bar for easy visibility in the dark and are available in over 20 colours.
RadioRA 3 supports Lumaris intelligent lighting for accent and cove applications. Lumaris tunable white tape light covers 1,800K to 4,000K with flicker free dimming to 0.1%, controlled natively within RadioRA 3 via Clear Connect Type X. Each wireless controller supports up to 16.4 ft of tape. Lumaris also includes tunable white downlights in 3 in and 4 in apertures, and an RGB plus tunable white tape light option for saturated colour accents alongside white light.
For shading, Triathlon Select motorised shades are battery powered and wire free, with approximately two year battery life. They integrate directly into RadioRA 3 scenes and schedules. Programming is handled via Lutron Designer software, with full support for scenes, schedules, geofencing, and automations.
Ideal for: extensions, kitchen renovations, whole home retrofit, and new builds up to medium scale.
Typical project examples:
- A kitchen extension with six dimming zones and under cabinet tape light, all controlled from a single keypad by the door.
- A four bedroom house with lighting control in every room, scheduled to welcome you home and turn off at bedtime.
Lutron HomeWorks QSX
HomeWorks QSX is Lutron's flagship whole home system. Built around a central processor, it integrates lighting, motorised shading, HVAC, audio, and third party systems into a single unified platform. It is the brain of the home.
Keypads are at the premium end of Lutron's range. Alisse keypads are hand crafted in glass, metal, and matte polymer finishes, configurable with up to nine buttons, custom engraved text and icons, and backlit for low light visibility. Palladiom keypads use architectural metal and glass finishes, with up to four buttons per gang and a minimal, discreet design.
HomeWorks integrates with non-Lutron systems via the LEAP API, covering AV, security, HVAC, and gate control. Whole home scenes and automations can pull all of these together. A "Goodnight" scene turns off every light, locks gates, and arms sensors with a single press. The system supports both wired and wireless devices, and is designed for new builds and major back to brick renovations.
HomeWorks QSX is the premium tier of Lutron residential lighting control — for clients who want everything integrated under one roof.
Lutron shading
Shading is often overlooked as part of lighting control, but managing natural light alongside electric light is essential to how a room feels through the day. Lutron's Sivoia QS and Triathlon ranges cover motorised blinds, shades, and drapery tracks in roller, honeycomb, and drapery formats. Shades integrate directly into lighting scenes, so a "movie" scene can dim the lights and close the blinds in a single press, and a morning scene can open them automatically.
Trained and certified
We install and programme Lutron RadioRA 3 systems. Sparcford is working towards full Lutron RA3 qualification, and we will update this section once the qualification is in place. We design and install with the same care and attention regardless, and use Lutron's professional design software for every project.
Frequently asked questions
RadioRA 3 or HomeWorks QSX — which is right for me?
RadioRA 3 is the right answer for most homes. It is wireless, retrofit friendly, and supports up to 400 devices across two processors, which covers all but the largest properties. HomeWorks QSX is the choice for new builds and major renovations where you want a single processor based platform that integrates lighting with shading, HVAC, audio, and third party systems via the LEAP API. The keypads are also at a higher tier (Alisse and Palladiom). We will recommend based on your project, not on price.
What does a Lutron RadioRA 3 system cost?
A single room setup with a few dimmers and a Sunnata keypad typically starts from around £1,500. A multi room system covering the main living spaces usually falls between £2,000 and £8,000 depending on the number of circuits, keypads, and any tape light or shading. Whole home retrofits scale from there. These are indicative figures. We provide a detailed fixed quote after the design stage.
Can my existing lights stay, or do they need replacing?
In most cases, your existing LED downlights and fittings will work with Lutron dimmers. We check compatibility against Lutron's tested LED list as part of the design process. Where a fitting is not suitable for smooth dimming, we will recommend a like-for-like replacement.
What keypad finishes are available?
Sunnata keypads (for RadioRA 3) come in over 20 colours, from satin nickel and matte black through to designer colours. For HomeWorks, Alisse keypads use hand crafted glass, metal, and matte polymer finishes with custom engraved text and icons. Palladiom keypads use architectural metal and glass finishes for a minimal look. We will help you choose finishes that suit the interior of each room.
Can RadioRA 3 be expanded later?
Yes. RadioRA 3 is designed to grow with your home. You can start with a single room, add further rooms over time, and add a second processor to extend capacity from 200 to 400 devices if needed. All devices on the system remain compatible.
