Additional sockets & circuits

Modern homes need more power points than older properties were designed for. Whether you need extra sockets in a bedroom, a dedicated circuit for a home office, or USB outlets throughout the house, we install them safely and neatly across Kingston, Richmond, Surrey and South West London.

Why add more sockets?

Overloaded extension leads and adaptors are one of the most common causes of electrical fires in UK homes. If you find yourself relying on multi-socket adaptors in every room, adding properly installed sockets is a safer and more practical solution.

Additional sockets also add value to your property. Buyers and tenants expect adequate power points in every room, particularly in kitchens, home offices, and living areas.

What we install

Double and single sockets

Standard double sockets installed to current regulations, with the option of USB-A and USB-C integrated outlets for convenient device charging without adaptors.

Dedicated circuits

Some appliances require their own circuit for safety and performance. Cookers, electric showers, immersion heaters, and EV chargers all need a dedicated supply from the consumer unit. We install new circuits with appropriate protection.

Spur connections

A fused spur is used to add a socket from an existing ring circuit. This is a common and cost-effective way to add a single extra socket where running a new circuit is not necessary.

Data and media points

Ethernet outlets, TV aerial points, and telephone sockets installed neatly alongside your power sockets. A hardwired network connection is faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi, particularly for home offices.

Our approach

We always aim for a neat, tidy finish. Cables are chased into walls and plastered over wherever possible. Where surface-mounted wiring is the only option (for example, in solid-walled properties), we use mini-trunking to keep it tidy. We discuss the routing with you before starting so there are no surprises.

Pricing guidance

A single additional double socket typically costs between £80 and £150 depending on the route and distance from the existing circuit. A new dedicated circuit from the consumer unit starts from around £200. We provide an exact quote after assessing your requirements.

Frequently asked questions

How many sockets should each room have?

There is no legal minimum, but guidance from the Electrical Safety Council recommends at least four double sockets in a living room, six in a kitchen, and two in each bedroom. A home office benefits from at least three to four double sockets to avoid relying on extension leads.

Can you add sockets without chasing walls?

Yes. Surface-mounted sockets with mini-trunking are a practical option where chasing is not possible or desirable, such as in rented properties, solid brick walls, or listed buildings.

Do I need to notify Building Control?

Adding a socket to an existing circuit in a non-special location (i.e. not a bathroom or outdoors) does not usually require notification. However, adding a new circuit from the consumer unit is notifiable under Part P. As a registered electrician, we can self-certify this work.
